Bicycle Repairs and Tune Ups
Bicycle repairs are often required for both new and older bikes.
I have 31 years experience in repairs of all sorts gained while the lead mechanic/trainer at Canada's
2nd oldest bike shop, McBride Cycle.
For 98.36% of all clients that walk through my door, I can complete the repair required.
My policy remains the same as it was when I started in 1986, if I can't fix it I will gladly refer you to
a mechanic that can.
Here are some of the typical problems I face:
These can all be completed usually within a 24 hour period as long as parts are available.
The price for repairs is based on the work undertaken
with the shop minimum being $15

Stuck at home and can't make it in with your bike? I have been known to make house calls. It doesn't happen too often but it does happen.
So far I have made house calls to: Lakefield, Lock 19 (on a boat), Trent University, Tallwood apartments, East City.
My clients appreciate the personal service and reduced stress in having to find a way to transport their bike to and from my shop.
Please be aware that I will charge a small fee for such service, but you will receive the same terrific service as all my clients.
I pride myself on providing an exemplary tune up.
When a bike comes in, I personally go over the bike with the client to determine what the problems are and what is required. This helps to provide a complete understanding of the situation and prevents many surprises.
Mind you the full extent of some wear and tear can not be realized until the tuneup is underway. In cases such as these, I will call the client to inform them of the situation and will make recommendations for their approval.
Here is what I cover in a typical tune up for an adult bike:
This is typical of the majority of bikes I work on.
Some bikes require more and others less.
For example a single speed bike would not require any work on the gears.
The current fee for a tune up of an adult bike is $45+ the cost of parts. Compare that to $60 at retail shops.
For a bike with only 1 to 6 gears, the fee is $35 + the cost of parts.
A children's single speed bike is $25 + the cost of any parts.
If you think that any parts might be needed for a repair, please consider leaving a minimum deposit of between $10 and $20. It's much appreciated and helps to keep my costs down.
Please do me a favour and clean your bike before bringing it over. Believe me, I'd rather be repairing your bike than cleaning it. A filthy bike will incur a nominal charge.
